Narrator/Linda: You all know the story of Stone soup with the tired, hungry soldier making soup with a simple, iron cauldron and a small stone. He draws the miserly villagers together to share the food they've been hoarding, and through this, brings the community together to create a delicious meal for all. With that same spirit, we tell our tale.
Emma: Hey, Sarah! What are you doing?
Sarah: Oh, Linda and I were just helping Mrs. Wayland take in the groceries. She fell through her porch last week and twisted her ankle and broke her wrist.
Emma: Oh that's so nice of you, do you guys need help?
Sarah: No, we have this for now.
Emma: Well, is there anything else I can do?
Sarah: If you want, later today we are going to be raking the leaves. Mrs. Wayland was not able to get it done before winter and they're a little matted into the grass.
Emma: Yeah, sure I can help you. And you know what? My husband can fix up this hole in porch so Mrs. Wayland won't fall again. He just did some work on our house last week so he knows what he's doing.
Narrator/Linda: A few hours later, the town is drawn together.
Emma: So, this is the garden I was telling you about and those are gutters that Hank noticed earlier today.
Sarah: So, you did decide to show up.
Hank: Yes, I noticed that Mrs. Wayland's gutters were clogged and the water leaking was leaking out. That's what rotting the porch.
Emma: I brought my friend Delilah to help clean those out.
Delilah: And that is my cousin, Angelica. Her family is staying in town and she wanted to come hang out and clean up.
Gretchen: Hey Angelica! What's going on? I'm so glad you're back in town! What's going on here? Is there a party I wasn't invited to?
Angelica: Oh Gretchen! (Kisses) No, of course not. What party WOULDN'T you be invited to? I'm helping my cousin Delilah take care of Mrs. Wayland...because she's old. You should stick around and help.
Gretchen: What do you need?
Angelica: Well, I was going to plant some flowers that my mom brought in front of the of the house.
Gretchen: That would be fun I just love watching the garden shows!
Delilah: You know after this we should take out the storm windows and put the screens back in for the summer.
Hank: That's a good idea! With all of us helping, this house will look great in no time!
Narrator/Linda: We would like to invite you to join us on Saturday, May 2nd at 10:00 to make Stone Soup and help our neighbors. Just pick up a stone from the poster in the narthex, bring what is indicated and be prepared for a few hours of blessings for both the body and spirit.
