Grace: So…How’s Rich?
Whitney: Well…you know…it’s Rich. Things aren’t what I thought they would be. (Ent. Gretchen and Phoebe)
Gretchen: Hey guys, sorry I’m late. By the way, this is phoebe.
Phoebe: OMG I’m so glad to meet you!
Gretchen: Giving the group a non-verbal apology Anyways...
Grace: What do you mean Rich is Rich?
Whitney: You know, let’s not talk about it right now.
Gretchen: It’s okay Whitney, we’re all friends here. She glares at phoebe
Phoebe: Yah, I mean, I just met you guys, but, LYLAS totally!
Grace: You know we aren’t going to judge you – we’re here for you.
Whitney: Well…he doesn’t treat me right.
Grace: What do you mean?
Gretchen: I KNOW there’s more than that
Whitney: Well, he’s never home. He’s always out. There are always weird rumors, and he doesn’t listen to me when I try to confront him about…things…and he makes me cry.
Grace: Whitney I’ve seen you guys fight. I know there is more than that. He’s 24 years old! He shouldn’t be doing that stuff!
Phoebe: NO WAY! You can’t be for serious!
Gretchen: Phoebs…
Whitney: Look, I’m 16. I think I would know if I was getting abused.
Gretchen: Wake up Whitney! Everybody knows you didn’t slip on the ice.
Phoebe: I didn’t know you fell on the ice!
Whitney: I didn’t. It was Rich.
Phoebe: Rich fell on the ice?!
Gretchen: Hey Phoebe, why don’t you…
Phoebe: Get a coffee? Yeah, I really want a slim chai latte, extra spicy, extra…
Gretchen: Phoebe.
Phoebe: Oh right, brb!
Phoebe exits
Whitney: Okay. Yes he’s hurt me. Yes he’s older. But what am I going to do? I can’t go back home. My parents have made that pretty clear.
Gretchen: I don’t know what to tell you this time. I’ve already told you weeks ago that this was a stupid idea. If you’d just listen to me you wouldn’t be in this mess.
Grace: You know Gretchen, now is really not the time.
Whitney: No Grace, she’s right.
Grace: That’s irrelevant. What’s important is that we get you out of this situation.
Gretchen: Well you can’t stay with me. My parents don’t want someone like you around.
Whitney: No it’s okay; I wouldn’t put that on you.
Grace: Look, my parents already know abut this and they said that you can stay with us if you want to get out.
Whitney: You told your parents?! I can’t face them if they know!
Grace: Well you can’t go back.
My dad will go and get your stuff from Rich’s apartment for you.
Whitney: I’m so sorry Gracey.
Grace: Don’t be down on yourself. I’m here for you. I’m your friend.
